Why we picked this one
If your lawn is mostly flat, about an acre or less, and you're tired of the Saturday mow, this is the mower we recommend first. It's the simplest wire-free mower we carry: no perimeter wire to bury, no fiddly boundary sensors, and a setup most customers finish in an afternoon. Buy it from the manufacturer and you get a mower. Buy it from Zippy and you get a mower plus somebody in Pennsylvania who has set up a lot of them.
How it finds its way around
The L2500 uses three things at once: satellite positioning accurate to about an inch (RTK), two forward cameras that see obstacles, and motion sensors that keep it on track under trees. It comes with a Home Link Box, a small radio that plugs into your router and gives the mower a signal across the whole yard, so you can watch it and change settings from your phone anywhere on the property.
How much lawn it handles
It mows about 2,700 sq ft per hour and up to 1 acre per day. A 1/2-acre lawn gets fully mowed every other day on a normal schedule. It runs about 4 hours on a charge, recharges in about 2.5 hours, and picks up exactly where it stopped.
The cut
A 9.4-inch cutting disc with five small swappable blades. Cutting height is 1.2 to 2.8 inches, set with a knob on top of the mower. Three blade speeds. It cuts a little every day, so clippings are tiny and go back into the lawn as fertilizer. Noise is about 60 dB, quieter than a normal conversation.
Hills, edges, and obstacles
It mows on slopes up to 22° (a 40% grade) and can climb 30° (57%) to get between zones. It recognizes about 300 kinds of common obstacles, including dogs, toys, and hoses, and steers around them. You draw the mowing zones, no-go areas, and paths between them in the app; we do this for you on a Zippy install.
